Tips to Practice Safe and Healthy Work Habits

Millions of people spend the majority of their work day sitting at a desk without the proper support in their office furniture. Sitting in one position for long periods of time can lead to major problems with posture, neck pain, and inability to concentrate on work.

These tips can help improve work habits while maintaining overall physical health.

Ergonomics:

Keep your computer in front of you with the screen slightly below your eye level.
Your hands should be able to reach the keyboard without bending the wrists.
Use wrist supports in front of the keyboard.
Use an office chair designed for spinal support.
Maintain good posture by keeping your back straight and avoid slouching.

Stay Active:

For every 50 minutes of sitting, get up and walk for 10 minutes.
Use the stairs whenever possible to improve your range of motion.
Stand and stretch your back by bending forward and touching your toes while keeping your knees bent slightly.
Stretch your neck by tilting your head forwards and backwards, then side to side. Avoid rolling your head in a circle; this can lead to pulled neck muscles.
Ease the tension in your upper back doing shoulder rolls. Keeping you harms hanging at your side; you roll your shoulders in a circular pattern backwards and forwards.
